    How Sproutern reviews career articles

Our blog is written for students, freshers, and early-career professionals. We aim for useful, readable guidance first, but we still expect articles to cite primary regulations, university guidance, or employer-side evidence wherever the advice depends on facts rather than opinion.

Freshness checks are recorded on pages where the update is material to the reader.

    Update cadence

Evergreen articles are reviewed at least quarterly; time-sensitive posts move sooner

Time-sensitive topics move faster when rules, deadlines, or market signals change.

How this content is built and maintained

We publish articles only after checking whether the advice depends on a policy, a market signal, or first-hand experience. If a section depends on an official rule, we look for the original source. If it depends on experience, we label it as practical guidance instead of hard fact.

    • We do not treat AI-generated drafts as final content; human editors review and rewrite before publication.
    • If an article cites a hiring trend or academic rule, the editorial team looks for the original report, regulation, or handbook first.
    • Major updates are logged so readers can see whether a change reflects a new policy, fresher data, or a corrected explanation.

    Primary sources and expert references

Not every article uses the same dataset, but the editorial expectation is consistent: cite the primary rule, employer guidance, or research owner wherever it materially affects the reader.

    • Primary regulations, employer documentation, and university sources

Blog articles are expected to cite the original policy, handbook, or employer guidance before we publish practical takeaways.

    • OECD and World Economic Forum

Used for labor-market, education, and future-of-work context when broader data is needed.

    • NACE and public recruiter guidance

Used for resume, interview, internship, and early-career hiring patterns where employer-side evidence matters.

Added reviewer and methodology disclosure to major blog surfaces

The blog section now clearly shows review context, source expectations, and correction workflow alongside major article experiences.

    Reader feedback loop

Writers and editors monitor feedback for factual issues, unclear advice, and stale references that should be refreshed.

TCS NQT Preparation Strategy: Syllabus, Pattern, and Study Plan

Sproutern Career TeamLast Updated: 2026-01-0514 min read

Complete guide to cracking TCS NQT (National Qualifier Test). Exam pattern, syllabus, coding questions, and strategy to get Ninja and Digital profiles.

TCS NQT Preparation Strategy: Syllabus, Pattern, and Study Plan

The TCS National Qualifier Test (NQT) is one of the largest recruitment drives in India, hiring roughly 40,000 freshers annually. It is the gateway to two major profiles:

    1. TCS Ninja: Standard fresher role (~3.3 - 3.6 LPA).
    2. TCS Digital: Premium role (~7.0 - 7.5 LPA).

High performers in NQT get a direct interview for the Digital profile. This guide helps you prepare for both.

TCS NQT Exam Pattern (Integrated Test Pattern)

The test is usually adaptive or integrated, lasting about 190 Minutes.

    SectionPartDurationQuestions
    Part A: FoundationNumerical Ability25 Mins~20
    Verbal Ability25 Mins~25
    Reasoning Ability25 Mins~20
    Part B: AdvancedAdvanced Quant20 Mins~10
    Advanced Reasoning15 Mins~10
    Advanced Coding55 Mins2 Qs

Note: Part A is for Ninja. Part B is mandatory if you want the Digital profile.

    Detailed Syllabus

    1. Numerical Ability (Quant)

    • Important Topics: Percentages, profit & Loss, Time & Work, Statistics (Mean, Median, Mode, SD - TCS favorite), Number System (Divisibility).
    • Difficulty: Easy to Medium.
    • Tip: TCS questions are calculation-intensive. Practice using the on-screen calculator.

    2. Verbal Ability (English)

    • Topics: Reading Comprehension, Sentence Completion (Cloze test), Para-jumbles, Tenses/Articles.
    • Difficulty: Easy.

    3. Reasoning Ability

    • Topics: Coding-Decoding, Blood Relations, Data Sufficiency, Visual Reasoning, Syllogisms.
    • Difficulty: Easy to Medium.

    4. Advanced Coding (Rank Determiner)

    Usually 2 questions:

    • Q1 (Easy/Medium): 20 Mins. Basic arrays, strings, or math logic.
    • Q2 (Hard): 35 Mins. Matrix manipulation, complex string parsing, or basic DP.
    • Languages: C, C++, Java, Python, Perl.

    Preparation Strategy: 2-Week Plan

    T-Minus 14 Days: Basics

    • Quant: Don't solve CAT-level harder problems. Focus on standard arithmetic and Elementary Statistics (Standard Deviation, Mode). Many students skip stats and lose easy marks.
    • Coding: Revise syntax. Can you write a program to check prime numbers? Palindrome? Armstrong number? string reversal?

    T-Minus 7 Days: TCS Specifics

    • Previous Year Questions (PYQ): TCS repeats concepts frequently. Solve the last 3 years' NQT papers.
    • Logic: Focus on "Data Arrangements" and "Visual Reasoning".

    T-Minus 2 Days: Mock Mode

    • On-Screen Calculator: Stop using your phone calculator. Practice with the clumsy online calculator interface.
    • Read Instructions: TCS NQT often has no negative marking, but check instructions on D-Day.

How to Crack TCS Digital (7 LPA)?

    To get the Digital upgrade:

    1. Clear the Cutoff: perform exceptionally well in the "Advanced Section" (Adv Quant + Adv Coding).
    2. Coding is Key: You MUST solve at least 1 coding question completely (all test cases passed) and the other partially to be safe for Digital aptitude.
    3. Interview: If shortlisted, the Digital interview asks about creating projects, new tech (AI/Cloud/IoT), and logic.

    Coding Question Types to Practice

    1. Number Series: "Find the Nth term of the series 1, 1, 2, 3, 4, 9, 8, 27..."
    2. String Manipulation: "Count vowels in a string," "Remove duplicates."
    3. Arrays: "Rotate array by K elements," "Find second largest element."
    4. Math: "GCD/LCM," "Permutations."

    Important Rules

    • Adaptive: In some versions, you cannot revisit a question once answered. Check current rules.
    • NQT Score Validity: The score is valid for 2 years and used by other companies too (Titan, Tata Electronics, etc.), not just TCS.

    Key Takeaways

    1. Statistics: Don't ignore Mean/Median/Mode/SD. It's a TCS staple.
    2. Calculator: Learn to use the on-screen calculator fast.
    3. Accuracy: Since there may not be negative marking in some sections, attempt everything, but prioritize accuracy in known questions.
    4. Coding: Practice reading input from STDIN (Standard Input) and printing to STDOUT.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Can I choose Python?

Yes, Python is available and recommended for its speed of writing, unless you are very strong in C++/Java.

What if I fail Part B but pass Part A?

You will be considered for the Ninja profile (3.36 LPA).

    Is NQT free?

For the campus hiring drive (TCS specific), it is usually free. For the paid "NQT Variant" available to the public, there is a fee, but it applies to multiple companies.
